The minute you walked in, you felt it. This was a special place.

I’d practiced yoga for fifteen years. In Seattle. In California. I had never in my life felt the palpable spirit of peace and uplift that I felt at the Yoga & Polarity Center. It became quite literally holy ground for me.

At a low point in my emotional life, my wife — who so often comes up with the solutions— said, “I bet you’d make an awesome yoga teacher.” That was 2011. I began training for my 200-hour Yoga Teaching Certificate at YPC that fall. It was a nine-month program that basically blew the spiritual soot out. It rewired my brain. I became a better person, and more tender toward the parts of me that weren’t any better yet.

After graduating the program in the spring of 2012, I began teaching right away, thanks to Heather Principe’s courage. She took a chance on me, a completely inexperienced teacher. She gave me the space to both make my mistakes and to build my confidence. And I did. Both. The 200-hour certification soon turned into a 500-hour certification, and I have been teaching yoga now for eight years without looking back.
