OH MY GOD. Adeline. Yes to everything, especially to just never going back to that particular doctor. I'm not saying ignore your health. But I am saying acknowledge what's true for you.

I, too, suffer from sleep apnea. I tried the home sleep test. The sleep study lab sleep test. I tried the traditional mask. Then another, differently shaped one. Smaller. Larger. Nothing worked. And I was disappointed, because if I sat up on the couch and wore the mask, I felt fantastic! But the minute I lay down, my whole body had to tense up just to keep the mask on and sealed. The instant I started to nod off to sleep, the seal would break and my eyeballs "were in a a wind tunnel" (that line really made me laugh).

I decided this is a draconian, weirdassed, frankensteiny contraption that--thank God--works very very well for a lot fo people. And that it doesn't work for me.

So I just go ahead and have sleep apnea. Big woop. I am blessed with a home that has two bedrooms, so my very loving wife doesn't have to wake up to my snorting anymore. And everybody's happy.

Would I be better off if I could have better oxygen to my brain at night? Of course. But life is simply not optimal. There's no such thing. This is the way my life is for me. Yours will be different. Why do we have such a problem with not all having the same exact optimal life?

Okay. End of rant. Thank you for writing this thing. It really made me feel not so alone.
