National Poetry Writing Month (one a day for the whole month)
April Fools Day.
When nothing is sacred
and you can’t trust anyone.
I know a woman who married a royal prince
(if the laws hadn’t changed some years before
in his country of origin).
On April Fools Day,
she short-sheeted their bed.
As he tried to retire that night, and
couldn’t, he was just confused. He kept
trying and failing, and looking into the sheets,
wondering what was wrong. It didn’t dawn on him
that anyone would do this on purpose.
His wife laughed so hard. She tried to explain April Fools.
“In America, we think this is funny.”
Tina Lear has written since she could hold a pencil. She’s completed four musicals with her long time collaborator, writer Elise Forier-Edie, taught yoga to inmates at Rikers Island, performed for thousands at Folk Festivals nationwide, and driven cattle in Wyoming.
