There’s gotta be a better way.

The tone of these messages isn’t motivating me. It’s turning me off.

The first time I got the email saying, “Amy McGrath LOST!” I thought, “Oh no!” and like an idiot I opened it. What followed was a manipulative, You Are A Bad Person Because You Didn’t Respond email — very guilt-trippy. “We sent an email last week — no response. We sent another one, warning everyone of what was happening — nothing. We’re shocked. No one responded. And now we’re on the cusp of losing it all. You can save us. We need $300,000 by midnight tomorrow. Will you send us $5? Can you make it monthly?”

That’s the first type of email. The second is the “You’ve been selected for an interview.” It’s bullshit. You’re led through a series of leading questions. Questions like, “How important is it to you that children don’t die a horrible death after being abandoned outside in a terrible blizzard?” (obviously not a real question, just making a point here) Then you have to click Very or Not At All. If you click on “Very,” then the page that shows up is a donation page. I mean, you said it was very important. So…where’s your money?

It’s never enough.
