Holiday Season. Meant to be all about loving, gathering, giving, sharing. But usually, it’s a tense, chaotic, exhausting exercise in trying to get everyone on the same page. And the usual suspects never cooperate. Some don’t even acknowledge there’s a book, much less a page.

This is a time of year when everyone’s unmet needs climb up out of our bellies and make demands that are still raw — thirty, forty, seventy years later. We know they won’t be met because of what happened so long ago, and we’re still pissed about it.

The shit hits the fan…at the dinner table, at the front door, in the car on the way to the airport. It’s such a common story. Therapists and support programs worldwide are all extra busy during this season.

Here’s an idea: Don’t do anything about it.
Don’t fix it, address it, or even try to ignore it.

Easy for me to say from my quiet spot in this laptop, while at your house, doors are slamming, and kids are fighting, and silences are poisoning the living room. But I’m saying…don’t do anything about it. It’s our need to make life different than it is, our need to make people different than they are, that causes our suffering.
