One of the things I did while sheltering in place
A Gift From My Shelter to Yours
It took a while to settle into this “shelter.” For the first few days, I was lethargic, disoriented, and depressed. I felt unmoored. But my inner best friend kicked in and I started getting productive. I completely cleaned out a closet upstairs — one that we use almost daily, but it’s gotten so scary it made me sick to open it.
I faced it. I made coffee, and I faced the damn thing.
It took two whole days, plus one more morning for finishing touches, but I did it. We now know exactly where to find first aid supplies, medicines for cough, cold and flu, lady stuff, essential oils, the humidifier, the heating pad, the gift wrap, candlesticks, tea light holders, all the candles (real and electric), etc.
This process involved an awful lot of shame as I pulled out empty jar after empty jar…I had thirty-five of them. “Because someday I might need it.” Holy moly. I let them all go. All except a couple, because, um, sometime I might actually need them. (I know. But it was only a couple.)
So that happened.
